Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common in children. While more common in girls, boys can have them as well.
Symptoms of a UTI may include:
- Painful urination – burning feeling when urinating
- Frequent urination
- Abdominal discomfort
- Fever
- Urge to urinate that doesn’t go away
- Cloudy colored urine
- Signs of blood in the urine – bright red, pink or cola-colored urine
- Strong-smelling urine
At our practice, we specialize in the prompt diagnosis and treatment of UTIs to prevent complications and ensure your child's comfort. If a UTI is suspected, we will perform a urine test to confirm the presence of infection and determine the appropriate antibiotic treatment. For most children, oral antibiotics are effective in treating the infection, and symptoms typically improve within a few days. We also provide guidance on preventing future UTIs, such as proper hygiene practices, staying hydrated and ensuring regular bathroom habits. Early treatment is key to helping your child recover quickly and avoid long-term health issues. If your child shows signs of a UTI or has recurrent infections, we encourage you to schedule an appointment so we can provide the care they need to recover and maintain their urinary health.
