FAQ's

Q: Where are your offices located, and how can I reach them?
A: We have offices in Lee’s Summit and Independence, Missouri. Please see the locations link for maps and driving directions. Independence Pediatrics can be reached at (816) 373-1111, and Lee’s Summit Pediatrics can be reached at (816) 525-2112.

Q: Do I need to make an appointment?
A: Appointments are required for well checks, follow-ups, and consults. We do see walk-ins in our Lee’s Summit location during normal office hours. Please click on the links for more detailed information about appointments and walk-ins.

Q: Do I need to bring my insurance card each visit?
A: Yes. It is very important to have your insurance card every time you visit one of our offices. Even though your information may be unchanged since your last visit, having your insurance card helps us keep your child’s information up-to-date and readily available.

Q: What insurances do you accept?
A: Most insurance plans are accepted in our offices. For a list of accepted policies, please see Insurance Info.

Q: Is the _______________ vaccine safe for my child?
A: Vaccines are carefully engineered to prevent serious illness by aperting the immune system to a particular threat. However, there is a very small risk associated with any vaccine. For more information about the vaccines offered in our offices and their safety, please visit our Immunization Schedule and Immunization Information.

Q: Does my child need to be seen in the office for ___________, or can I treat him/her at home?
A: If you are unsure whether your child needs to be seen by a physician, please call our triage nurse at (816)373-1111, option #2. If you are directed to an answering machine, please leave a message and our triage nurse will call you back during the same day, usually during the same hour. For more information about some common pediatric illnesses, visit our Medical Info section.

Q: Why do I need to pay co-pay for my child’s follow-up visit?
A: If you are asked for co-pay when you arrive at your follow-up appointment, it is because our office is credentialed with, and required by, your insurance provider to collect co-pay at every office visit. Follow-up visits require the staff and physicians to review the patient’s information, and are used to evaluate prior treatments. To make the best use of this important visit, we recommend that you request the same provider that you saw during your original visit.

Q: Why do I need to pay co-pay to pick up my child’s medication refill?
A: Scripts for controlled substances, including ADD and ADHD medications, cannot be called into pharmacies over the phone by federal law. A physician at our practice must first evaluate patients requiring refills or scripts on controlled substances. If you are asked for co-pay when you receive your medication script, it is because our office is credentialed with, and required by, your insurance provider to collect co-pay at every office visit.
